I’ve noticed that the word “empathy” appears more often these days in our colloquial dialogue. Perhaps it is because it is so sorely lacking in many of our daily interactions.
We need to get beyond the “me game” if we have any hope to improve our ability to relate to people very different from ourselves (which is most everyone!!)
Empathy is not sympathy and, Brene Brown, the renowned research professor from University of Houston who has spent the past decade studying empathy, vulnerability and shame, teaches us the difference.
Watch this short, but highly engaging video clip and learn. I also highly recommend her TED talks which have reached hundreds of thousands of people.
